“GREEN” Campership Dollars

Attention Aldersgate and Casowasco Campers!  Here is an extra opportunity to combine some caring for creation activities with raising some money to put towards your camp account for this summer.  Ms. Christina will list five different activities on the church website which will be centered around the 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2010.  Each of these activities will be worth $15 towards your individual campership account.  You must have a signed activity form on file with Ms. Christina and you must follow the activity agreement in order to receive the credit for the “green” campership dollars.  Ask her for an Activity Agreement form if you have not filled one out back in the fall when some youth went to a corn maze and/or raked leaves at the Parsonage.  Further guidelines for attending these activities and gaining “green” campership dollars will be listed on the church website at…..www.rome1stumc.org under the Education link on the left side bar.

If you ever need to check on any Christian Education activity dates, they are usually listed in this section of our Internet webpage.

GREEN ACTIVITIES:

Thursday, May 13th.  Come and join Barb Hoehn and Ms. Christina as they weed the grounds surrounding our church building from 4:00 - 5:30 pm.  Bring your own gloves and work attitude.  Supper will be served at 5:30 pm for the participants in the Lounge area of the church.  You MUST contact Ms. Christina if interested in this activity

 Informational Vacation Bible School Meeting

Our Vacation Bible School program has grown!  We are now planning in conjunction with five other downtown Rome churches.  This summer’s program has been scheduled for Sunday, August 15th – Thursday, August 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with tentative plans for an off- site Block Party that following weekend.  The VBS planning committee is searching for several Family Leaders to participate in this community outreach program.  A Family Leader would be assigned a Teen or Adult Assistant and up to eight children in their small group.  This group would travel to each of the activities where there will be more adults to guide the “family” through the activity.  Activities include visiting Joseph and hearing his story point of the day, celebrating with Praise Music, eating at the Food Shop, crafts at the different Egyptian stores, playing at the Pyramid Playground and Family scripture time. This exciting VBS program is called “EGYPT – Joseph’s Journey from Prison to Palace” and we will be decorating the Fellowship Hall to give all the participants the feeling of actually being in Egypt.  Our next meeting is Wednesday, May 12th from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

Ms. Christina’s office hours are by appointment only- don't hesitate to meet with her if you have a Christian Education need or question.   You can contact her for an appointment at 334.0093 or beiderbeckechris@aim.com.

If you are interested in listening to an internet radio project which shares hope with children through music, word, prayer and scripture...

then hit this link:

Common Good Radio believes music invites people to participate in the transcendent. Children have been known to stop in their tracks, immersing themselves in the music they hear; they will tell you they love the beat, the pretty sounds, the words.  Common Good Radio project supports this love!

The Common Good Radio project knows that computer culture is a part of your world, which makes it a part of the world your children live in.  Common Good Radio was created so you and the children would have:

  • A faithful companion when online
  • A joyful reminder of scripture, ideas and voices that speak to your faith journey
  • Support for your faith centered life

CAMPING/RETREATS Casowasco, on Owasco Lake, and Aldersgate, at Brantingham Lake, provide beautiful, wooded settings for summer camping and year-round retreats and conferences. Camperships are available through our Camping Agent, Deb Weiss.  Contact the church office for more information.
